Onto the news...
Another slow week and really only two issues appeared in the news this week, fire safety, and the Oregonian's in Action lawsuit over the ballot title decision. Lets get going..

OIA lawsuit over Measure 49 Ballot Title turned down

The lawsuit filled by Oregonians in Action alleging that the Measure 49 ballot title is unconstitutional was turned down Thursday in federal court. You can read more about it here Judge won't block property measure ballot title.

Measure 49 and Surviving Spouses

There seems to be a lot of noise out there right now about the issue of surviving spouses and what rights they have under Measure 49 and what rights they have under Measure 37. Northwest Republican is promoting a story over on a blog called The Truth on Measure 49(The Truth), both sites are Anti-Measure 49. The story is claiming that Measure 49 will not provide surviving spouses with benefits as the Yes on Measure 49 campaign has said here. What is the real story, who is actually right? Lets get to it.

An editorial in the Medford Mail-Tribune caught my eye this weekend. The full editorial can be found here.

In this editorial the Mail-Tribune points out some very interesting facts and brings to light some things that I had not seen previously discussed as of yet in everything about Measure 49 and Measure 37. Starting off with some common misconceptions floating out there about Measure 49, and ending with putting the debate into a perspective that I had not seen before.

A sensible solution to gross abuses.

A letter to the editor in the Lake Oswego Review from an economist living in NE Portland advocating for Measure 49's passage. Saying "Measure 37 has gone too far; it will undo 30 years of smart growth and destroy Oregon’s unique open spaces."

Just so that we're all very clear on what we're talking about, I decided to post the full text of Measure 49 here on OregonWatch. I had previously posted just the link to pdf version that the Secretary of State was housing but decided to get the full thing myself. Lets get to it!
